Why I Wrote A Whisper From The Stars?
Dear visitor,
I began writing A Whisper From The Stars over 13 years ago. The story has matured over time as I have, hopefully.
Throughout those years, I have been lucky enough to live in different countries and develop friendships and romances that transcend culture, language, and nation. Those experiences gave me a particular perspective for the story I am trying to tell.
Throughout the world, we share the same struggles as a species. We all pay for electricity. We all seek identity in the shelter of our own culture and traditions. We all wonder where we came from. Yet these questions and concerns often make us forget that we are one species inhabiting the same planet.
Humans are complex. We simultaneously crave and fear the confirmation that we are not alone in the universe, and yet every time we have encountered a different culture throughout history, we have waged war against it.
I wanted to tell a story that transcends time. A story where we can see planet Earth reflected through our own social and economic struggles. A reflection of what our future could become if we purchased abundance using our own humanity as currency. As well as a version of our world where survival itself was so difficult that we had no choice but to take care of one another.
I wrote A Whisper From The Stars as a space opera to ask difficult questions while we embark together on a cosmic journey. Questions about how we should govern ourselves as a planet, and whether we are even ready to do so. Questions about the statistical improbability of life emerging in parallel, and the frustration of focusing on imaginary borders when a more advanced civilization could one day appear in our skies. Questions about energy, and why something so essential to life has become something we must purchase simply to survive.
There is another force I wanted to explore. Destiny.
Goals fail. Plans change. Love is lost. We tell ourselves everything happens for a reason. Perhaps we call it God’s will. I believe the answer is simpler, yet harder to accept. Life moves on, with or without us. But life itself is sentient. It adapts, evolves, and acts through an algorithm no one fully understands so that its voice is not lost in the silence of the cosmos. That is the whisper from the stars. The echo that moves us before we understand why. In human words, we call it instinct.
Then there is memory, love, and loss. We have all experienced pain and wished we could erase it. But without memory, we would not cherish knowledge. Without love, we would not understand loss. Sometimes we choose to escape memory through substances, distractions, or replacement. Yet deep down, we do not forget. Even when memories are buried, they remain. And when memory and reality become undeniable, refusing to act becomes self betrayal. That is destiny knocking at our door.
Spirituality is something we all experience differently, regardless of faith. Some find it in prayer. Others in nature. Others through altered states of consciousness. Others in the objective reality of the cosmos itself. However we experience it, we are all searching for the same thing.
I always had clarity about how this story would end. So do not worry. There will be no deus ex machina in the final pages of the saga. The ending was written before the beginning.
And perhaps…
the ending could be the beginning.
